About Us
The Roots of Bir Lane
In 2003, my parents, Alan and Edie began making soap. They had recently moved to a farm and were undertaking all sorts of homesteading projects. From keeping bees, raising chickens, training horses, and milking goats, there was very little they didn't try. Soapmaking was a natural extension of their homesteading life.
They began selling soap and honey at local farmers' markets. Made in their kitchen and wrapped in coffee filters, Alan and Edie successfully ran Hillview Farm.
Despite the success of Hillview Farm, Alan and Edie needed a break. They continued to make soap for themselves, but needed to scale back on the homestead life.
Bir Lane Soap Co
In 2023, Alan and Edie were back in the swing of the homestead life. This is where I come in - I had a problem. I was trying to ditch plastic bottles and switch to bar soap, but I could not find one that I liked. They were expensive and would crumble in my hair.
I went to my Dad, and asked if he would be willing to make shampoo bars for me. One thing led to another and next I know we are re-launching Hillview Farm under a new name - Bir Lane Soap Co.
